The Department of Physics of the University of Cyprus welcomes applications for a post-doctoral research position in Theoretical Cosmology to start in October 2014 for a total period of 4 years (initial contract for 2 years, renewable for a further 2 years).
The position is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) grant ERC−2013−617656-TheMoDS: “Theories and Models of the Dark Sector: Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Gravity”. The areas of interest to the TheMoDS project include:
− Theories of gravity and their cosmological implications.
− Dark matter and dark energy in cosmology.
− Model-independent tests of gravity and the dark sector.
− Cosmological probes of dark energy and gravity.
− Parameter estimation.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in Physics with a strong background in cosmology by the time of application and a working knowledge of English. Experts in cosmological perturbation theory and/or strong background in numerical calculations are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with the PI, Constantinos Skordis, and devote the majority of their time working on the TheMoDS project. Pursuing other independent research will also be encouraged.
The gross yearly salary is 40 838.04EUR (employer cost) from which the employee and employer’s national contributions will be subtracted. A generous travel budget of 4000 EUR per year is offered. Starting at a later date may be considered.
Applicants are requested to send their application including:
− A letter of interest
− Curriculum Vitae.
− Statement of research interests and research profile (strictly maximum 3 pages, font size 11).
− List of Publications.
− Scanned copies of University degrees.
− Names and contact details of three academic referees who will be writing a reference letter.
All application material should preferably be sent as a single pdf file via email to [Log in to view email] (or [Log in to view email]) by 18 April 2014.
The referees must sent the reference letters directly to [Log in to view email] (or [Log in to view email]), with the applicant’s name in the subject line (preferably in pdf format). The applicants must themselves contact the referees and it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the letters arrive by the deadline, 18 April 2014.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Constantinos Skordis, email [Log in to view email]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
