Post by Eric Linder » June 02 2017

The Energetic Cosmos Laboratory (ECL) announces its inaugural international conference
  • “Exploring the Energetic Universe 2017â€,
to take place August 6-12, 2017 at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The conference focuses on cosmology and the high energy universe, with major session themes:
  • Cosmology
    Gamma-ray Bursts
Advanced Detectors (including MKIDs and other cryogenic sensors)
Come join us for several days of leading speakers and plentiful opportunities for scientific interaction and collaboration, in Astana, one of the most unusual built environments in the world, with opportunities to visit the attractions and exhibits of World Expo 2017 (theme: Future Energy) just across the street, plus two days of sessions in the Aspen-like venue of the forest lake at Burabay.

Invited speakers include:

George Smoot (APC, HKUST, UCB) — New Ideas for Advanced Detectors
Alexei Starobinsky (Landau Institute) — Inflation
Shuhrat Ehgamberdiev (Ulugh Beg) — Strong Lensing and Astrophysics at Maidanak Observatory
Pawan Kumar (UT Austin) — Gamma-Ray Bursts
Yong-Seon Song (KASI) — Cosmological Large-Scale Structure
Sergey Sushkov (Kazan Center for Cosmology) — Theories of Gravity
Osamu Tajima (KEK) — MKIDs, GroundBIRD, and the Cosmic Microwave Background
Jonas Zmuidzinas (Caltech) --- Kinetic Inductance Detectors: Progress and Prospects
