Post by Roberto Trotta » January 22 2009

-----------------------------------------------------
First Announcement

CosmoStats09 : 26 - 31 July 2009, Ascona, Switzerland
and GREAT08 Challenge final workshop

-----------------------------------------------------

In the last ten years, a wealth of observational data has revolutionized cosmology. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together world-class leading figures in cosmology, particle physics and from the statistical community in order to exchange knowledge and experience in dealing with large and complex data sets, and to meet the challenge of upcoming large cosmological surveys.

Furthermore, CosmoStats09 will host the GRavitational lEnsing Accuracy Testing 2008 (GREAT08) Challenge Final Workshop. The competition can be accessed via the website www.great08challenge.info

The CosmoStats09 meeting is part of a vibrant series of international conferences coordinated by the ETH. We expect to gather up to 70 participants in the beautiful surroundings of the Monte Verita' (which used to host the Eranos conferences), for a 5-day residential conference, with lots of time for informal discussions. The program outline is as follows:

* Sunday, July 26th: arrival day
* Monday: statistical challenges in cosmology and particle physics
(with statistics respondent)
* Tuesday: discovery issues
* Wednesday: peta-scale inference & Great08 challenge final workshop
(or free afternoon)
* Thursday: Frequentists vs Bayesians & Great08/10 parallel session
* Friday, July 31st: workshop summary and outlook (morning only)

Invited speakers:
