Tenure Track Position in Theoretical Astrophysics at Fermila

Post by Josh Frieman » October 23 2006

The Fermilab Theoretical Astrophysics Group has an opening for an Associate Scientist, a tenure track position equivalent to Assistant Professor. This is the first of several positions anticipated over the next few years. The Theoretical Astrophysics Group is part of the new Fermilab Particle Astrophysics Center.

The Fermilab group has a wide range of interests, including theories of the early Universe and their connection to particle physics and string theory; the cosmic microwave background; large-scale structure and evolution including studies of its formation via numerical simulations and analysis; dark matter and dark energy, and other topics in particle astrophysics. Our work on cosmological implications of physics beyond the Standard Model overlaps with the interests of the Fermilab Particle Theory group. We also work closely with the experimental astrophysics program, which includes the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the Pierre Auger Project, the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search and COUPP, the Dark Energy Survey, and the SuperNova Acceleration Probe (SNAP). The Group has strong ties to the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics at the University of Chicago.

Currently, there are four staff members (Scott Dodelson, Josh Frieman, Nick Gnedin, and Albert Stebbins) and five post-docs (including one long term Schramm Fellow) in the group.

Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to
Faculty Search Committee; Theoretical Astrophysics Group; Fermilab; MS-209, P.O. Box 500; Batavia, IL 60510 USA
or to [Log in to view email].
To receive full consideration, applications should be received before December 31, 2006.
