Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Astronomy at Case Western Reserve University. The successful candidate will work with Professor Idit Zehavi on different aspects of large-scale structure and galaxy formation and evolution, particularly as pertaining to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and other higher redshift surveys. The Astronomy Department at Case is a participating institute in SDSS-II. The appointment will be for two years (with a possibility of extension for an additional year, contingent on available funding), and is expected to start in Fall 2007. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics and some related experience.
The Case Astronomy Department enjoys a collegial atmosphere. Interests in the department include large-scale structure, galaxy evolution, structure and dynamics of galaxies, chemical abundances, and telescope and instrument design (see http://astronomy.case.edu ). The department owns and operates the Burrell Schmidt telescope at Kitt Peak. The Case Department of Physics additionally focuses on particle astrophysics and cosmology.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by December 15, 2006.
