CMB PhD Positions at SISSA

Post by Sarah Bridle » September 04 2006

Posting this on behalf of Carlo Baccigalupi:

Dear collegue,

The Astrophysics Sector at SISSA is looking for motivated students capable of carrying out a PhD project focused on the study of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, in connection with the forthcoming experimental challenges where SISSA is directly involved.

The CMB group at SISSA (www.sissa.it/Planck) is currently working on a variety of topics ranging from theoretical studies on the CMB capability of constraining dark energy, to the actual preparation of the data analysis tools necessary for a successful exploitation of the forthcoming experiments in which SISSA has a direct role. Those are the E and B experiments (EBEx, groups.physics.umn.edu/cosmology/ebex/) and Planck (www.rssd.esa.int/Planck).
The group is currently composed by Carlo Baccigalupi, Luigi Danese, Samuel Leach, and several other post-docs and PhD students.

The EBEx experiment is scheduled to fly from North America in fall 2007, and from Antarctica one year later. The Planck experiment is currently scheduled for launch in early 2008. SISSA is heavily involved in the preparatory work for both missions, and will participate directly in the data analysis and scientific exploitation.

For the academic year 2006/2007, applications should be received at SISSA no later than September 20, 2006, following the details at www.sissa.it, click on Courses, than PhD courses, then application forms and deadlines at the bottom of the page.

Please, feel free to forward this message to anybody interested.

Best regards, Carlo Baccigalupi
