Ph.D. studentship with Szczecin Cosmology Group, Poland

Post by Mariusz Dabrowski » June 23 2021

The Szczecin Cosmology Group at the Institute of Physics of the University of Szczecin (http://cosmo.usz.edu.pl) invites applications for a Ph.D. studentship in cosmology.

The position is available through PRELUDIUM BIS 2 grant entitled “Nonextensive entropies impact onto black holes and holography” of the Polish National Science Center (NCN) No DEC-2020/39/O/ST2/02323 awarded by prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski, head of the Cosmology Group. The research will focus on phenomenology of quantum gravity within the fields of generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), black hole radiation, black hole and cosmological entropies, holographic dark energy, Tsallis, Renyi, and Barrow entropies, extended uncertainty principle (EUP) and related topics. Candidates with both theoretical and numerical/observational expertise are welcome, reminding that observational testing is an important ingredient of contemporary cosmology.

The deadline for application is 31st August 2021. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on 13th-15th September 2021. A successful candidate will have to register at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin (more information are provided in English at this page: https://szkoladoktorska.usz.edu.pl/en/home-2/).

The studies will begin on the 1st October 2021 and last for 4 years following schedules and rules of the Doctoral School. A monthly grant will amount to net 5000 PLN for the first two years, and then after a positive mid-term evaluation, it will amount to net 6000 PLN for the next two years. Moreover, the University of Szczecin provides an opportunity for some extra stipends applications for excellent students starting from the second year of studies. Travel fund and a 4-month internship in external institution fund are also available through the NCN grant budget. There is a possibility for a cheaper university-supported accommodation. The city of Szczecin is located near to Polish border with Germany – 130 km away from Berlin, with good access to international airports.

Applications should include: CV; list of publications; a brief statement of research interests; a copy of graduate studies diploma (M.Sc.) and transcripts of the exams; a copy of the thesis; at least 1 letter of recommendation, to be sent directly by email to prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski ([Log in to view email]).
