Ph.D. fellowship at the University of Oslo

Post by Per B. Lilje » August 28 2020

The Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics of the University of Oslo offers one Ph.D. research fellowship to a student who will start Ph.D. studies in the spring semester 2021. The application deadline is the 15th of October, 2020.

The fellowship is supported by the EU-funded project “Towards an Atacama Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (AtLAST)”, which is led by Associate Professor Claudia Cicone. The project aims at performing a comprehensive Design Study for AtLAST, which is a concept for a next generation, 50 meter – diameter single dish telescope operating at (sub-)millimeter wavelengths. As part of the research education leading to the degree of Ph.D. at the University of Oslo, the Ph.D. student will perform original research in the field of galaxy formation and evolution, aimed at deriving theoretical expectations for extragalactic observations with AtLAST.

The fellowship requires that the candidate fulfills all requirements for being accepted as a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Oslo. These requirements include that the candidate has a bachelor degree with at least the average grade C on the ECTS scale and a master’s degree where both the grade of a thesis and the average grade of courses included in the master’s degree are B (ECTS) or better. Candidates, except those listed in http://www.mn.uio.no/english/research/phd/application/application.html, MUST submit documentation of English proficiency with their application.
