The Instituto de Física Teórica (Institute for Theoretical Physics), Madrid, a Severo Ochoa Excellence Centre, welcomes applications for a 1+1-year postdoctoral position in cosmology, starting in the fall of 2020. The position will be co-funded by two ongoing Junior Leader fellowships from “La Caixa” foundation (grant number LCF/BQ/PI19/11690015 and LCF/BQ/PI19/11690018).
The selected candidate will work with Matteo Martinelli and Pierre Fleury on a project developing novel observables in weak or strong gravitational lensing, and assess their potential for cosmological parameter estimation, tests of alternative theories of gravity, or probes of the nature of dark matter. This project will give the selected candidate an opportunity to exploit or improve their expertise of the theory of gravitational lensing, as well as the statistical and numerical tools commonly used in cosmology. Besides the aforementioned project, the selected candidate will be encouraged to freely conduct their own research programme.
The selected candidate will join a young and dynamic research group, whose expertise covers gravitation, early-time and late-time cosmology, and astroparticle physics.
Salary and budget
The monthly gross salary will be about 2600€. The selected candidate will dispose of an annual research budget of 5k€ for travel and equipment.
The candidates must send their application before 23:59 CET on March 15th, 2020. The application will consist of a CV, and a 3- to 5-page research statement including a short research project, to be sent by e-mail at [Log in to view email] with subject line:
[Application IFT postdoc] Name Surname
They should also arrange for up to 3 reference letters to be sent at the same address with the same subject line.
A short list will be established by the end of March 2020, and Skype interviews with the short-listed candidates will be conducted during the first half of April 2020.
IFT UAM/CSIC is an equal-opportunity institution. Applications from under-represented groups in science are particularly encouraged.
