Post by Mariusz Dabrowski » July 07 2019

The Szczecin Cosmology Group at the Institute of Physics of the University of Szczecin (http://cosmo.usz.edu.pl) invites applications for 2 Ph.D. studentships in cosmology.

The research will focus on alternative theories of gravity and in-depth study of the nature of dark energy and dark matter by using novel cosmological and astrophysical probes. Observational testing will be the key and main issue of the project. Thus, preference will be given to candidates with some experience in (or with a strongly declared willingness to work on) data analysis. Previous knowledge and ability in programming will be considered an asset.

The studies will begin on the 1st October 2019 and last for minimum 3 years up to 4 years. The positions are funded by the Polish National Center for Research and Development through the University of Szczecin. The stipend will be 4000 PLN a month throughout the period. An extra stipend of 1000 PLN paid from the Rector's budget for best students is also possible. There is possibility for a cheaper university-supported accommodation; travel fund is available. The city of Szczecin is located near to Polish border with Germany – 130 km away from Berlin, with good access to international airports.

The deadline for a preliminary application is 1st August 2019. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on 5th-7th August 2019. After this date and by 19th August 2019, successful candidates will have to register at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin, following some extra admission procedure supervised by professors from the cosmology group.

Applications should include: CV; list of publications; a brief statement of research interests; a copy of graduate studies diploma (M.Sc.) and transcripts of the exams; a copy of the thesis; at least 1 letter of recommendation, to be sent directly to the addresses below.

Applications and recommendations should be sent by email to prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski ([Log in to view email]) or to prof. Vincenzo Salzano ([Log in to view email]).
