ERC funded PostDoctoral researcher position in Observational

Post by Mickael Rigault » November 15 2017

Applications are invited for a full time postdoctoral position in cosmology and instrumental astrophysics funded by the ERC Starting Grant USNAC and hosted by the Institut de Physique Nucléaire de Lyon in France (IPNL, a IN2P3 laboratory). The candidate will join Dr. Mickael Rigault to work on Type Ia supernova Cosmology. As member of USNAC, the candidate will have access to Nearby Supernova Factory data and will be part of the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) Cosmology working group. ZTF is a unique new generation large scale survey that will collect within 3 years up to 2000 spectroscopically typed Type Ia supernovae within a redshift range of 0<z<0.1. The candidate is expected to dedicate part of his or her time to the collective ZTF data reduction effort in addition to develop and pursue its own research program within the boundaries of the USNAC activities. The host institution (IN2P3) is a funding member of LSST, is actively involved in Euclid, and has shown interest in joining the future WFIRST space mission.

Of particular interest are postdoctoral candidates interested by high accuracy measurements of cosmological parameters with knowledge in instrumental and observational aspects (notably photometry). The contract includes all the travel expenses required for the development of the project (meetings, workshops, collaborations, etc.). The successful candidate will have no teaching duties.

The position is expected to initially be for two years, with a possible extension for a third year. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by the start date of the position (flexible, but nominally May 1, 2018).

To be considered for the position, please send the following application materials as a single PDF to Dr. Mickael Rigault at [Log in to view email] : 1) curriculum vitae, 2) list of publications, and 3) summary of previous and current research as well as a short research project (no more than three pages in total). Applicants should have three reference letters sent to the same email address. Rolling applications will be accepted, and applications will begin to be reviewed January 6th, 2018.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
