Postdoctoral position in astrophysics/cosmology at Case West

Post by Idit Zehavi » September 09 2009

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position in the Department of Astronomy at Case Western Reserve University. The successful candidate will work with Professor Idit Zehavi and collaborators on galaxy clustering and different aspects of large-scale structure, galaxy formation and evolution, and cosmology, particularly as pertaining to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and other higher redshift surveys. The Astronomy Department at CWRU is an institutional member in the SDSS and the new SDSS-III collaborations. The appointment will be for two years (with a possibility for an additional year, contingent on funding), and is expected to start in Fall 2010. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics and some relevant experience.

Interests in the CWRU Astronomy Department include large-scale structure, galaxy formation and evolution, structure and dynamics of galaxies, chemical abundances, and telescope and instrument design. The department owns and operates the Burrell Schmidt telescope at Kitt Peak. The CWRU Department of Physics additionally focuses on particle astrophysics and cosmology. Both departments are also part of the Center for Education and Research in Cosmology and Astrophysics.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by December 1, 2009. Applications can be sent electronically (in PDF or postscript formats) to [Log in to view email] or by mail to: Prof. Idit Zehavi, Department of Astronomy, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, 44106-7215. Inquiries can be directed to [Log in to view email]. CWRU is committed to diversity and is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
