5 year personal research fellowship leading to a permanent lectureship

The recently established Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) invites applications for a 5-year Academic Research Fellowship leading to a permanent lectureship in cosmology. Applications in all areas of cosmology are welcomed, particularly from candidates with expertise in computational and observational cosmology that complements the group's current research interests.

This prestigious fellowship is available for candidates in the early stages of their career with a track record of high quality research. During the first five years, the fellow will primarily concentrate on developing as an independent researcher and at the end of the fellowship will transfer to a permanent academic position. Candidates holding an existing research fellowship are also eligible to apply. (See http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/acfellow/ ).

The ICG achieved grade 5 in the 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercise and has 7 academic staff (Bruce Bassett, Marco Bruni, Chris Clarkson, Rob Crittenden, Roy Maartens, Bob Nichol, David Wands), 7 post-docs and 14 PhD students. The Distributed Systems Group (grid computing) is affiliated to the ICG, with Mark Baker, a postdoc and 3 PhD students. The ICG maintains a strong programme of international visitors and collaboration and has excellent local computing facilities and a share of the COSMOS2 national supercomputer. The ICG is a member of KAOS team and is in the process of joining SDSS2. Members of the ICG are also involved in the SDSS, AstroGrid2, and Virtual Observatory projects.
