Department of Physics
Arizona State University

The Department of Physics at the Arizona State University (https:// physics.asu.edu/) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus in theoretical particle physics. Anticipated start date is August 2017. We are particularly interested in applicants with a research focus in high-energy theory, broadly defined. Applicants from all areas of high-energy physics, including particle physics (phenomenological and formal aspects of the Standard Model and beyond), quantum field theory, and the interface with mathematics are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty working to advance innovative research and excellence in teaching through its work with the diverse and growing undergraduate and graduate student population at Arizona State University.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program, engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, participate in service to the university and profession, and build productive relationships with faculty.

The theoretical particle physics, particle astrophysics, and cosmology efforts at ASU include internationally-known faculty within the Department, and collaboration with ASU’s Cosmology Initiative and the School of Earth and Space Exploration. The department also sustains an experimental program in hadronic physics, nuclear physics/fundamental symmetries, and cosmology, with plans to add an experimental effort in particle (astro)physics. For more information on ASU Physics and its faculty, please visit http://physics.asu.edu. For information on the ASU Cosmology Initiative, please visit http://cosmology.asu.edu.

Minimum qualifications include: a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in physical or mathematical sciences by start of appointment, demonstrated ability to establish a strong, independent, externally-funded research program and potential for leadership in their subfield, evidence of successful postdoctoral experience and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching.

Desired qualifications include: a strong record of research accomplishments, and demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.

To apply, please submit the following materials within a single PDF document to http://physics.asu.edu/employment.php: (1) a cover letter that includes contact information (including email addresses) for three to five references who may be contacted a later stage of consideration, (2) a comprehensive curriculum vitae that includes a complete publication record, (3) an outline of future research plans (not to exceed two pages), and (4) a statement of teaching philosophy and interests (not to exceed two pages).

The initial deadline for review of complete applications is December 15, 2016; if not filled, review of complete applications will continue every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed. A background check is required for employment.
