Berkeley-ECL Postdoctoral Researchers in Cosmology Theory, D

Post by Eric Linder »

Several postdoctoral researcher positions are available between Berkeley and the newly established Energetic Cosmos Laboratory (ECL) at Nazarbayev University (NU) in Astana, Kazakhstan. ECL conducts research in cosmology (dark energy, inflation, gamma ray bursts, cosmic microwave background, large scale structure) through developing theoretical models and probes, advanced statistical and computational techniques of data analysis, and new instrumentation. The current hardware efforts focus on a rapid response telescope with multichannel camera for gamma ray burst science and new cryogenic detectors including MKIDs for both CMB and optical surveys, and data analysis efforts focus on preparation for analyzing and interpreting CMB, DESI, and LSST data.

Positions can be either based at Berkeley (UC Berkeley and/or Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) with frequent visits to ECL, or based at ECL with working visits to Berkeley, as well as partner lab APC Paris and possibly Japan. Applicants should state whether they wish to be considered for both options or only one, and also their available starting date (between March and September 2017). Salaries at either location are internationally competitive. The working language of ECL and NU is English. NU is a modern research university, located next to the site of World Expo 2017. Berkeley scientists involved are George Smoot, Bruce Grossan, and Eric Linder. Exceptionally qualified candidates can be appointed at research scientist or project scientist level.

Applicants should email a single PDF file containing curriculum vitae, list of publications, short statement of research interests and plans, and at least three names and contact information for references to elinder@berkeley.edu. Applications sent by December 15 will receive full consideration although applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled.
