Just got some pretty solid rumours that WMAP2 is coming up real soon
(in weeks, perhaps this very month).
And most of what we guessed about polarization-related results seems to be true...(see the other WMAP forum topic)
so, get ready to enjoy the new data release ;-)

Well... The reporter doesn't say anything about what his sources are, so to me it sounds as the usual "soon" :-)

I can confirm that the BBC's 'soon' is the same as ours! The reporter, Tom Fielden, got his information from me and others, and had no inside info of his own.

Someone out there has got to know! What do you think is going on?

I spoke with David Spergel about this when he visited Vanderbilt in October,
and he indicated that they were aiming for an early November release date.

I have to say I'm sort of impressed... People are *still* waiting for the WMAP release as if it's coming tomorrow..?! Personally, I've fallen into something close to apathy -- the data come when they are ready, and there's nothing I can do about it. So I've stopped wondering about them, and I've stopped planning as if they are coming next week.

PS! It was a month until release in June, August, September and now even October. In fact, they were close to making a release Christmas 2003.

Actually, we are talking about two Junes, Augusts, Septembers and even Octobers (2004 and 2005)... :)

WMAP Release date

I agree with Hans Kristian!

Months, maybe years ago, I freaked out whenever
I went on holidays. I thought that clearly, WMAP would publish the results the day I get on vacation. But now, I simply don't care anymore.
If the data is released at some inconvenient date, I hope the community will just ignore it and postpone work on the data to some more appropriate time. Say, if it came out right before Christmas, why not pretend it didn't come out yet. Have a fortnight of holidays and in the new year discover that the data finally came out ?
