As you may already have heard, there is a funding crisis in the UK research council that funds astronomy and particle physics, STFC.

There is a petition to the UK Prime Minister on the official Government website here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Physics-Funding, requesting the cuts to be reversed.
