Post by Sarah Bridle » February 02 2006

See below for 2 postdoc positions we are currently advertising at UCL. Please send your applications in by 7 Feb (not long now). Do also apply if you have a strong statistical background in cosmology (e.g. CMB) and would like to apply it to one of the two preferred areas (detailed below).

Applications are invited for TWO Post-doctoral Research Fellowships funded by PPARC, to commence in October 2006. Applications from candidates with strong observational or theoretical interests in Cosmology are encouraged. Preferred areas of research are cosmological studies from (i) large photometric and spectroscopic redshift surveys and (ii) weak gravitational lensing.

The Cosmology programme at UCL is part of one of the largest Astrophysics groups in the UK which also has active research programmes in star formation, the interstellar medium, astro-chemistry, planets, atmospheric physics and instrumentation. The Head of the Astrophysics group is Prof. Ofer Lahav, and the recently appointed faculty members in Cosmology are Dr. Sarah Bridle and Dr. Jochen Weller. The group is involved in several international projects, including the 6dF galaxy survey, the Dark Energy Survey and the Wide-Field Optical Multi-Object Spectrograph (WFMOS). For more details see http://www.star.ucl.ac.uk/

Each position is for a maximum of three years. Salary scale is the new grade 7, in the range: £24,886 to £26,402 plus £2,400 London Allowance.

Applications, accompanied by a CV, list of publications and a three-page (maximum) statement of research interests and plans, plus full contact details of three referees, should be sent to Kate Wilson-Heyworth, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University College London, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT, UK (email: k.wilson-heyworth@ucl.ac.uk). Informal enquiries about the posts may be made to Dr. Sarah Bridle (sarah@star.ucl.ac.uk), Prof. Ofer Lahav (lahav@star.ucl.ac.uk), or Dr. Jochen Weller (jochen.weller@ucl.ac.uk).
