Postdoc at University of Pennsylvania

Post by Mike Jarvis » October 11 2017

Position in Lensing and Cosmology at the University of Pennsylvania

One or more postdoctoral level positions are available at the University of Pennsylvania working on lensing and cosmology research using large survey data, including DES, WFIRST and LSST.

A significant portion of the work is expected to be open-ended cosmology research, potentially using current data from DES and CMB surveys or planning for data from LSST, WFIRST and CMB surveys. We welcome applicants with experience in simulating images, measuring shapes and/or fluxes from images of galaxies, using statistics on large data sets, or designing new analytic techniques for using survey data to probe cosmology. Applicants are welcome to collaborate with anyone in the cosmology group at the University of Pennsylvania.

One of the positions is partially focused on planning for doing cosmology analysis with the WFIRST (Wide-Field Infra-Red Space Telescope) High Latitude Survey as part of the WFIRST Cosmology Science Investigation Team (SIT). This could involve creating and analyzing simulated WFIRST images with GalSim to investigate the impact of various systematic effects in the HgCdTe detectors. It could also involve analytic investigations of how to mitigate such systematic errors in the various cosmological probes being considered for WFIRST.

The initial appointment is for two years, renewable up to a total of three years, and offers competitive salary, benefits, and research allowance. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, brief description of research interests, and arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted to Mike Jarvis ([Log in to view email]). Consideration of applications will begin on December 15, 2017.

Application Deadline:
Sunday, December 31, 2017
