Postdoctoral position in numerical cosmology at IAP

Post by Guilhem Lavaux » September 14 2016

The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris is seeking candidates for a 2+1 year post-doctoral position in Bayesian statistics and numerical cosmology, starting at the earliest in spring/summer 2017 (later is possible).

The successful candidate will carry out research in the development of new Bayesian analysis tools of galaxy spectroscopic and photometric surveys, notably in the context of the BORG algorithm. It is expected that a lot of computational development will have to be carried out during the course of this position in addition to physical modeling and application to current and upcoming spectroscopic galaxy surveys.

Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from candidates with strong expertise in development of N-body simulations and heavy Bayesian analysis.

The IAP maintains a lively visitor program and hosts regular workshops and conferences throughout the year. The successful candidate will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment with rich intellectual and computational resources,

The appointment is for 2+1 years with salary depending on experience and performance, and including French social security benefits. Funding has been allocated for travel and research.

Applicants should submit a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works (2 pages) and a statement of research interests (2 pages). Three letter of recommendations should be sent separately. Application material should be sent via email to [Log in to view email]. For full consideration materials must be received before December 1st, 2016.
