First announcement of the XXVI Canary Islands Winter School of Astrophysics,
this year devoted to “Bayesian Astrophysics”.

XXVI IAC Winter School of Astrophysics on “Bayesian Astrophysics”.
November 3-14, 2014, Tenerife, Spain

The Canary Islands Winter School of Astrophysics has been organized
by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (http://www.iac.es/index.php?lang=en)
every year since 1989.

The XXVI IAC Winter School of Astrophysics will be held in the world heritage
city of San Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife (Spain) from November 3 to November 14, 2014.

The school is addressed to post-graduate students in Astrophysics completing
their PhD, and also to young post-docs. It is limited to 50 participants, and requires a
registration fee. The fee covers attending the school plus shared accommodation
in a double-room with half board (breakfast and lunch), for the duration of the
school. In addition, it covers the social events and excursions to the two major
observatories of the Canary Islands ('El Teide', in Tenerife http://www.iac.es/eno.php?op1=3&lang=en,
and 'El Roque de los Muchachos' on the Island of La Palma http://www.iac.es/eno.php?op1=2&lang=en).

The registration fee will be in the range 1000−1300 EUR, depending on the number
of attendants and a limited number of grants will be available.

The school is expected to provide an overview of the fundamentals of
Bayesian inference and its applications to areas such as extrasolar planet
detection, cosmology, large scale surveys, or image reconstruction. We want to
provide the next generation of researchers with the tools of modern Bayesian data
analysis that will become a standard in future research in astrophysics.

A number of leading experts on Bayesian Analysis from different subject areas
in astrophysics will lecture on the following topics:

1- History of Bayesian theory by Prof. José Miguel Bernardo (University of Valencia, Spain)
2- Introduction to Bayesian Inference by Dr. Thomas Loredo (Cornell University, USA)
3- Bayesian Inference How-To by Dr. Brendon J. Brewer (University of Auckland, New Zealand)
4- Cosmology by Dr. Roberto Trotta (Imperial College London, UK)
5- Extrasolar Planets by Prof. Phillip C. Gregory (University British Columbia, Canada)
6- Large Scale Surveys by Dr. Dusting Lang (Carnegie Mellon University, USA)
7- Image Deconvolution by Dr. Jean-Luc Starck (Service d'Astrophysique, CEA/Saclay, France)

In order to maximize interactions, lecturers and students will stay in the same hotel

Special poster sessions will be organized for the students that want to present
their recent work.
