CAPE TOWN RESEARCH CHAIR: COSMOLOGY WITH MULTI-WAVELENGTH DA

Post by Bruce Bassett » February 22 2012

The University of Western Cape (UWC), together with the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), have been awarded a South African Research Chair as part of the major investment in optical/IR and radio astronomy in South Africa, centred on the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT: www.salt.ac.za), MeerKAT and the SKA ( http://www.ska.ac.za).

We are looking for an experienced researcher with an international reputation who has the vision and enthusiasm to build a program of world-class research and training that spans the three host institutions.

These prestigious chairs provide generous funding for the chair's salary, postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers and general research costs. Chairs can also apply for additional funding. There is no undergraduate teaching and no administrative duties since the focus of the chair is on research, postgraduate development, outreach and group-building.

The chair will join the highly active astronomy and cosmology research groups in the beautiful city of Cape Town, and will contribute to science exploitation of SALT, MeerKAT and the SKA. Potential applicants are welcome to contact Roy Maartens ([Log in to view email]) or other relevant faculty at UWC ( www.uwcastro.org), SAAO ( www.saao.ac.za) or AIMS ( http://cosmoaims.wordpress.com) with any inquiries.

Consideration of applications will begin on 30 April 2012 and the position will remain open until filled. Please send a CV (including publications) and a research plan, and the names and email addresses of 3 referees, to [Log in to view email].
