Hi,
We are advertising two postdocs at Universtity College London (UCL), each for three years. Deadline 15th January.

The successful applicants will work in the area of gravitational cosmic shear, with an emphasis on new interdisciplinary approaches to the measurement of gravitational shear from images (e.g. GREAT08, GREAT10) preferably in collaboration with computer scientists, including UCL's Center for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML) directed by Prof. John Shawe-Taylor. A background in gravitational lensing is not essential but candidates should have worked in cosmology, computer science and/or statistical analysis.

Hi,
Thanks very much for your emails asking when these would start.
Ideally they would start October 2010, but could start as early as April 2010, or later than Oct 2010, for exceptional candidates.
There will also be a studentship advertised shortly on the same topic.

These positions (and the studentship to be advertised shortly) are funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
They are not tied to a particular experiment but we are heavily involved in DES and Euclid.
We hope the two successful candidates will bring complementary skills.

Was asked what is meant by a "brief" research statement: max 3 pages on past and proposed research would be fine.
Where your background is not directly on cosmic shear measurement, it could be useful if you highlight the relevant qualities and skills you would bring to the position, either in the statement or in a cover letter.
