NEW ! GGI CONFERENCE ON DARK ENERGY -- FLORENCE -- March 2-4

Post by Alessandro Melchiorri » December 18 2008

GGI CONFERENCE ON DARK ENERGY– FIRST BULLETIN

2-4 March 2009, Galileo Galilei Institute for Theoretical Physics,
Florence, Italy

I. WEB PAGE AND REGISTRATION

http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it//index.php?p=events.inc&id=40

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: January 31st 2009 !!

II. PURPOSE

The observation of dark energy demonstrates that our well established
theories of particle physics and gravity are incomplete if not
incorrect. This conference will bring together theorists,
phenomenologists, observers and experimentalists to discuss optimal
ways to probe the dark side of the universe. Key questions to be
discussed include

- What mechanism is driving the acceleration of the universe?

- Is gravity purely geometry as envisaged by Einstein?

- Is there evidence for extra dimensions and varying couplings?

- Which local and astrophysical probes are optimal to answer the above?

III. Organizers

Marc Kamionkowski (Caltech, USA)
Carlos Martins (CAUP, Porto, Portugal)
Alessandro Melchiorri (University of Rome La Sapienza")
Antonello Polosa (INFN, Rome)
Licia Verde (ICE/CSIC Barcelona, Spain)

IV. Preliminary List of Speakers

Luca Amendola (Rome Observatory)
Daniel Baumann (Princeton)
Robert Caldwell (Dartmouth)
Asantha Cooray (Irvine)
Pierstefano Corasaniti (Obs. Paris Meudon)
Robert Crittenden (Portsmouth)
Tommaso Giannantonio (Bonn University)
Daniel Holz (Los Alamos)
Dragan Huterer (University Michigan)
Raul Jimenez (Barcelona)
Lawrence Krauss (Case Western)
Eric Linder (Berkeley)
Sabino Matarrese (Padova)
Hiranya Peiris (Cambridge)
Alessandra Silvestri (MIT)
Sara Shandera (Syracuse)
Tristan Smith (Berkeley)
Albert Stebbins (Fermilab)
Roberto Trotta (Imperial College, London)
Jochen Weller (Munich)

...and many others !

IV. VENUE

The conference will be hosted at the Galileo Galilei Institute (http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it/) is located within walking distance from the historic center of Florence, on the historic hill of Arcetri, near the house where Galileo lived. I registered online for the conference, but did not receive any acknowledgment.

When will you publish the schedule and details of the conference fee? Some of us need to obtain the approval of their institute before they can attend the conference.

Hi,
you will receive the acknowledgement after January 31st...I am sorry
but I have no control on this since the logistics are done directly by GGI.
The conference fee is 50 euros and covers 3 lunches and 6 coffee breaks
(quite fair I would say!).
We plan to have conference proceedings published on Nuclear Physics B.

All the best
Alessandro
