Galileo Galilei Institute: New Horizons For Modern Cosmology

Post by Alessandro Melchiorri » April 09 2008

Dear Colleagues,

we are happy to inform you that our proposal for a workshop at the
"Galileo Galilei Institute for Theoretical Physics" in Arcetri,
Florence (Italy) has been accepted for Winter 2009, from 19-01-2009
to 13-03-2009. The workshop is entitled:

"New Horizons for Modern Cosmology"

The format will be relaxed and informal to foster interaction. For more
details see http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it/index.php?p=events.inc&id=23

We plan to bring together up to 30 cosmologists, astrophysicists and
particle physicists per week for a total number of about 80 participants.
There will be a per-diem of 70 euros (net of taxes) for each invited
participant that should cover local living expenses.
Subject to space availability, self-funded participants may also attend.
Participants should cover their own travel expenses.

All the participants will have an office with a desk and PC. Lodging
will be organized by the Institute, on a first-come-first-served basis.

We therefore ask you to apply as soon as possible to the GGI website:

http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it/applications/ ... mology.htm

Participants are expected to stay at the institute for 3 weeks, starting
on a monday (so they should plan to arrive in Florence on a sunday).

When you register we ask you to please indicate the three weeks of your
first, second and third choice. This will help us in planning the workshop scientific program.
Shorter stays may be considered for experimentalists,
observers or those with administrative duties at their home institution.

Online registration is now open and will continue to June 30th.
After June 30th the organizing committee will make a selection
(the total maximum number of participants is limited to 80)
and rapidly inform people of the outcome of their application.

The Galileo Galilei institute (http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it/) is located
within walking distance from the historic center of Florence, on the
historic hill of Arcetri, near the house where Galileo lived. We plan to
organize several social activities during the weekends and in the evenings,
such as tours in the Chianti wine region of Tuscany, visits
to monuments and museums and excursions to Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano.

SEE YOU SOON IN FLORENCE!!!

Marc Kamionkowski, Carlos Martins, Alessandro Melchiorri,
Antonello Polosa and Licia Verde
