translating general spherical map to HEALPix format

hi all,
could i translate a general spherical map to HEALPix format?e.g the map of column density of HI gas :N_Hi, or E(B-V) map of the sky etc
could you give some advice?

If [tex]\theta[/tex] and [tex]\phi[/tex] of the 2D coordinate system are known, it can be translated to HEALPix pixel index by HEALPix IDL routine "ang2pix_xxxx". "xxxx" is "ring" or "nest" for different scheme.
