Postdoctoral Position at Penn State - Cosmological Analysis

Post by Donghui Jeong » October 02 2013

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position working with Prof. Donghui Jeong and collaborators in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The Pennsylvania State University. The successful applicant will study cosmological implications of the observations from the large galaxy surveys such as HETDEX (Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy eXperiment), and eBOSS of SDSS IV. A Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics is required, and experience with large surveys is preferable. The initial appointment will be for two years with a possibility for a renewal in the third year. The appointment will start in Fall 2014. The exact starting date can be flexible.

Starting from Fall of 2014, HETDEX expects to observe about a million Lyman-alpha emitters over a 9 cubic-Gpc volume at redshift 1.9 < z < 3.5 during three years of operation time. As a part of SDSS-IV starting from June 2014, eBOSS plans to observe about a half million high-redshift galaxies 0.6 < z < 1 and QSOs. With such an unprecedentedly large number of objects and volume coverage, HETDEX and eBOSS will open a new window to the high redshift universe. More information can be found at http://www.hetdex.org (HETDEX), http://www.sdss3.org/future/ (eBOSS) and information about the Department can be found at http://www.astro.psu.edu.

Application materials including CV (including the list of publication), statement of research interest (max 3 pages), and three letters of recommendation should be sent to Heather Lowe ([Log in to view email]) by December 15, 2013.

Questions can be directed to Dr. Donghui Jeong at [Log in to view email]

Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity and the diversity of its workforce.
