One postdoctoral position at Instituto Astrofisica de Canari

Post by Alberto Rubino-Martin » January 12 2012

Postdoctoral position at Instituto Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) on CMB research (QUIJOTE and PLANCK)

The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for ONE postdoctoral contract within the framework of the project “EPI: EXPLORING THE PHYSICS OF INFLATION”, with reference CSD2010-00064, whose Principal Investigator is Dr. Enrique Martínez González, and one of its networks is sited at the IAC (Cosmic Microwave Background), whose Principal Investigator is Dr. José Alberto Rubiño Martín.

The profile of the successful candidate should be that of a doctor in astrophysics with solid background in cosmology, and with expertise in the analysis of CMB data, including data processing and data analysis. Experience in the analysis of Planck data is desirable.

Tasks: The tasks for this position are divided in two projects: the PLANCK satellite and the QUIJOTE-CMB experiment. The detailed list of activities is:
* QUIJOTE. The post-doc will participate in the data analysis of the QUIJOTE MFI instrument (11-30GHz), as well as in the commissioning phase and first observations with the second instrument (30GHz). The main responsibility will be the construction and characterization of the polarization maps; the extraction and characterization of the astrophysical components (with special emphasis in the Galactic synchrotron emission) and the cosmological implications.
* PLANCK. The successful candidate is expected to work in any of the following research lines: extraction of the SZ effect signal; cosmology with clusters; optical follow-up of SZ clusters; component separation of astrophysical signals in CMB maps.
* Combined analysis of QUIJOTE and PLANCK. The characterization of the galactic astrophysical components which will be present in the QUIJOTE and Planck maps, namely synchrotron, free-free, thermal dust and anomalous emission.

Deadline for the submission of applications: 31/January/2012
