The Physics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral position as Research Associate in astrophysics/cosmology. This position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or astronomy. A strong background in cosmology is required and a focus on data analysis or N-body simulations is preferred, but all exceptional candidates will be considered. The successful candidate will have access to the data from surveys and to extensive large-scale computing and technical resources. This position comes with competitive salary and benefits.

Brookhaven National Laboratory is developing a program in cosmology, following a long tradition of strength in particle and nuclear physics. The focus of the nascent group is exploration of dark energy and other related fundamental physical phenomena. The program includes near-term cosmology projects BOSS and DES, as well as the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). Three new hires in cosmology have joined Brookhaven in the last year. Brookhaven is a member of the LSST collaboration and is the center for developing the CCD array for the telescope. Applications should be received by February 1, 2010 to be given fullest consideration. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The appointment will begin in September 2010, or sooner. When electronically applying for this position, please include (in one document) a cover letter, curriculum vita, publication list, and a brief description of research interests. After electronic submission of application, applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to [Log in to view email] (preferred), or by mail to Dr. Thomas Ludlam, Physics Department, Building 510A, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY 11973−5000.

I put the ad out on cosmocoffee, before it finished the final stages of HR bureaucracy. The job should appear on the jobs listing very soon (couple of weeks max!)

Thanks for your patience.
