Postdoc position at UPS-CESR Toulouse

Post by Anthony Banday » March 26 2009

Postdoctoral position at UPS-CESR (Toulouse)

Applications are invited for a three-year Postdoctoral position in
Toulouse, available from October 2009. Funding is provided by the
Agence Nationale de la Recherche.

The successful candidate will work with A.J. Banday on projects
related to testing the fundamental assumptions of cosmology - that of
homogeneity and isotropy - based on temperature and polarisation
observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background.

The candidate's primary responsibility will be concerned with the
ability to separate the cosmologically interesting CMB signal from the
Galactic emission. This will include the characterisation of the
physical and statistical nature of the Galactic foregrounds and the
development of methods to model and remove foreground emission from
the CMB data. This is particularly critical given our interest in
searching for evidence of a preferred direction for the cosmological
signal. The program is intimately connected to the Planck satellite
mission, and specifically to projects within its key science program.
Considerable emphasis will be placed on the development of methods
applicable to the polarised CMB signal, that will allow their use in
the next generation long-duration balloon or satellite projects that
are currently under development.

Candidates should have experience in CMB data analysis with particular
emphasis on Galactic astrophysical foregrounds and component
separation. Strong computational skills and a demonstrable familiarity
with distributed processing are desirable.

The position will be administered by the University Paul Sabatier, but
the successful candidate will be located at CESR.

Applicants should send a CV and arrange for three recommendation
letters to be sent to A.J. Banday <[Log in to view email]> by June 30 2009.
