post-doctoral fellowship at IAP in high energy astrophysics

Post by Martin Lemoine » December 07 2006

The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship in the field of theoretical high energy astrophysics on topics related to particle acceleration in astrophysical shock waves. The fellowship will start in the Fall of 2007 for a period of two years, possibly renewable for a year.

Research at IAP covers a wide range of disciplines: from theoretical and observational cosmology, astroparticle physics, high energy astrophysics, to stellar physics and extra-solar planetary systems. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to interact at IAP with scientists working on Fermi acceleration and ultra-high energy cosmic ray phenomenology, on the modeling of gamma-ray bursts, on accretion disks physics, etc... The post-doctoral fellow will also interact frequently with high energy astrophysics groups in Grenoble and Montpellier. Joint work is being conducted with these research teams on the modeling of Fermi acceleration in the non-relativistic and relativistic regimes, including cosmic-ray feedback on the shock magnetohydrodynamics. Applicants with prior background and experience in the field of magnetized plasma astrophysics are particularly encouraged.

The net salary per month is approximately 1850euros, as fixed by CNRS regulations. An annual allowance is available for research materials and conference expenses. Specific inquiries about the position may be addressed to Martin Lemoine ([Log in to view email]). Applicants should send a CV (including bibliography), a statement of research and arrange for three reference letters to be sent to:
