Post by Bruce Bassett » November 07 2006

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cosmology and Gravitation
2-year Fixed Term.

Deadline: 31 December 2006

The UCT Cosmology and Gravity Group is a young and dynamic research
unit based in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town. Currently we have five academic staff (Bruce Bassett, Chris Clarkson, Peter Dunsby, Charles Hellaby and Jeff Murugan), one Emeritus Professor (George Ellis), three postdoctoral researchers (Sante Carloni, Naureen Goheer, Megan McClure and Kishore Ananda) and a growing number of PhD and MSc students. Group members participate in many international research collaborations and we have an active visitor and seminar programme.

The group attracts considerable funding including a number of
international cooperation grants with Sweden, Italy, France, Poland
and the UK.

We are seeking a 2-year NRF-funded postdoctoral research associate in
cosmology or gravitation to work in any of the following areas:

* Cosmological Perturbations and the Cosmic Microwave Background

* Dark Energy

* Observational Cosmology

* Generalised Gravity

* Braneworlds and String Cosmology

* Inhomogeneous Cosmology and Observations

* Applications of Plasma Physics to Astrophysics and Cosmology

* String Theory with emphasis on the AdS/CFT Correspondence

* Gravitational Waves

In addition members of the group are actively involved in developing
cosmology surveys for SALT (www.salt.ac.za) and KAT (the South African SKA demonstrator) and are involved in the international SDSS supernova survey and the next-generation WFMOS redshift survey collaboration.

The group has good computing facilities including access to a 20-node
computing lab and will be an active user of the new Center for High-Performance Computing in Cape Town, the new national high-performance facility.

For more information on the group, its members and research opportunities see our website:

Emails are automatically hidden for people who are not logged in. Any registered member will see them once they have logged in (the site will remember your log-in details, so it should all be transparent after logging in once).

Unless you are keen to get lots more spam email, it's not a good idea to override the hiding mechanism.
