The Laboratory of Astrophysics (LASTRO) of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, announces the opening of 2 postdoctoral research positions in observational cosmology and gravitational lensing.
The successful candidate(s) should have a strong interest not only in cosmology, but also in image processing and mathematical/statistical techniques. She/he will also work on 1- weak gravitational lensing in cosmological surveys, 2- new algorithms for automated searches for strong lenses, 3- cosmography using time delays in lensed quasars. Some of this work is directly related to the processing and data analysis in relation to the EUCLID satellite, recently selected by ESA and in which LASTRO is directly involved.
The appointment is initially for 2 years with a possible extension of 1 year. Stipends depend on the year of Ph.D. thesis and will be in the range
CHF 78,000 - 90,000 (US$90,000 - 105,000). Additional funds are available for travels to conferences and relocation expenses.
The positions are available as of fall 2012. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a statement of the proposed research program, via email to the secretary of the laboratory ([Log in to view email]) in the form of one single pdf file. The candidates should arrange for three reference letters to be sent directly to the same email address before January 31, 2012.
