Permanent Research Professor Positions in Theoretical Physics at the ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research
The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research
announces the opening of two permanent research professor positions in
theoretical physics. Although the search will concentrate in the areas
of high-energy theory and cosmology, candidates from all areas of
theoretical physics are encouraged to apply. The search committee is
chaired by Peter Goddard (IAS Princeton), and the search committee
members are Marcela Carena (Fermilab), David Gross (KITP, Santa
Barbara), Leo Kadanoff (U. Chicago), Martin Rees (Cambridge), Robert
Wald (U. Chicago), Edward Witten (IAS Princeton) and Matias
Zaldarriaga (IAS Princeton).
The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research was
recently created in a collaboration of the International Centre for
Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the State University of São Paulo
(UNESP), and is located at the Instituto de Física Teórica (IFT-UNESP)
campus in São Paulo. The institute will have a large number of
postdocs and visitors, and three additional permanent research
professors will be hired in the near future.
In addition to performing research and organizing activities, the
new professors will assist in the teaching and supervising of Masters
and PhD students of IFT-UNESP. For highly qualified candidates, the
salary is 150,000 Brazilian reais (approximately 90,000 US dollars)
and additional research grants are available from state and national
funding agencies. The new professors will also have automatic joint
visiting positions at the ICTP in Trieste.
Review of applications will begin in February 2012 and will
continue until the positions are filled. Although there is no strict
deadline, candidates are encouraged to apply before January 28, 2012.
